Holos has been developed first and foremost to help you get your tasks done. You stay in control of your computer. Working with HOLOS means working with proven Debian Linux technology. From the onset and all the way through our design process we have made sure HOLOS is a clean operating system. One that doesn't bug you with unwanted windows, popups or overdone animations.
Fair and square!
All applications running on HOLOS look relatively simple. We like to keep it that way, since your computer should be helping you organise your documents, play your music and video's and show your pictures. An overload of eyecandy would only slow your system down. That is why we keep it simple, to keep all the power your computer has at your fingertips.

HOLOS makes your computer run at near-full efficiency. Hence it uses less electricity. We think caring for our world should be part of our daily routine. We designed HOLOS in such a way that you can keep using your computer without it slowing down.

Everything is neatly organised in folders and categories that enable you to start right away. The HOLOS menu has a lightning-speed search function to find and run programs instantly.

Using a computer should be easy. One of the reasons HOLOS is easy to use is the fact that the user interface doesn't change on each new version. Dissappearing buttons and controls are a thing of the past. You can find the buttons in HOLOS where you knew they were before. This stabilizes your working experience.

The startbar with its common icons offers a rich collection of applications for your personal use. Browsing your files, taking notes, e-mailing and keeping track of your adresses is among the extensive functionality built into HOLOS. Exploring the Internet, using Office programs, a calculator and listening to your music are a breeze. All of these functions can be accessed in literally one click of the mouse. For additional applications an organised menu gives you what you need. HOLOS gives you optimal access to a world of open source programs, no more than a few clicks away.

Our operating system is really free!
The only thing an unexperienced user need pay for is a one-time installation service fee. This costs even less than a Microsoft Windows or Apple OS-X license and gives access to tons of free programs. HOLOS is and will always remain a free operating system! Also the applications that run on HOLOS are completely free. This means free office, free communication- and information tools, free creativity suites and free fun and games.
Open source software provides stability.
We can guarantee a low cost, since we are part of a worldwide group of computer experts who work together as friends and create applications of which the source can be audited. The experts hold oneanother responsible for their work and aim for quality. This also means viruses are avoided and destructive code is filtered out. Users of open source software already know this, and can be confident that this gives them sound applications that are free of viruses.
Interoperability and standards.
During the development of HOLOS we have kept our eye on current technical trends and standards in the world of computing. HOLOS falls in line with these standards, while at the same time user security is a priority. Many currently accepted standards can put your personal information on the internet. In this way companies may try to send you unsollicited advertising. HOLOS gives you more control over your private data, so you can still visit your favorite websites. Web trackers and bugs are filtered out during your browsing experience. We just don't like unsollicited advertising.

Windows, DOS an Amiga applications.
Have you been using a certain application in your home or business for a long time? Sometimes applications stop working when switching from one OS to the other. HOLOS, however, supports many (even older) Windows programs, by utilizing WINE technology. This makes these applications run at native speed! We like help to stabilize your computing experience. HOLOS can run many old programs from the Windows 98, Windows 95, Windows 3.1, DOS en Amiga era. Find an application that doesn't work? Let us know!
Fun for children!
Computers are continually in development. Children often pick up on this much faster than adults. HOLOS provides a selection of fun games and programs. With these options, children no longer need to wade through a swamp of commercials to play the online game they like. HOLOS games can be launched easily using the 'Games' menu category.
Viruses get no chance.
HOLOS has been designed with security in mind. Viruses and malware get no chance. You do not even need a virus scanner! This saves you a lot of money you would otherwise have to spend on virus-database subscriptions and cleanup programs.
Past, present and future.
On old and new computers HOLOS runs faster than the operating systems Windows and MacOS. Because of open standards, you can also use your computer much longer. Yes, you can keep going until your computer falls apart. That is what we call sustainable computing. Together we learn from the past, take a stand in the present and keep our eyes on the future.
